What this page is for
AI voices sometimes stumble over a place name, an acronym or a local proper noun. The dictionary lets you impose the right pronunciation once and for all: the correction then applies to every one of your productions.
Adding a word
- Click Add a word.
- Original word: the word as it is spelled (“Leicester”, “NHS”).
- Pronunciation: the way it should be read (“Lester”, “N.H.S.”).
- Description: an optional context note.
- Save.
Tip :
Do not try to write in the international phonetic alphabet: simply spell the word the way it sounds.
Testing before you save
The add window contains a test sentence and two buttons, Original and With replacement, so you can hear the difference straight away.
Good to know :
This preview uses your browser's speech synthesis, not the SpeakRadio voices: it gives an indication, not the exact final result.
Managing your entries
- The list is sorted alphabetically and paginated 20 at a time.
- Search covers both the original word and its pronunciation.
- Each row can be edited or deleted.
- The same word can only be saved once.
A panel shows the number of your personal entries and the number of global entries maintained by SpeakRadio, which apply on top of your own.
What is worth adding
- Your station name, if it is read incorrectly
- Towns and localities in your broadcast area
- Acronyms to be spelled out (write them with full stops)
- Advertiser and presenter names
- Foreign words read with the wrong accent
